Kaffeehaus is close to the Theatre of São Carlos. Founded in 2008, it works as a café-restaurant and reincarnates a tertúlia (a gathering to discuss philosophy, politics, art) spirit. If you’re looking to relax, just ask for a hot chocolate, or a coffee with whipped cream. To go with it, succumb to gluttony and ask for a slice of sachertorte (a chocolate cake with three kinds of chocolate) or a bit of apfelstrudel (apple pie pastry filled with raisins). Kaffeehaus is closed on Mondays and closes at 8 p.m. on Sundays. However, on Fridays and Saturdays it is open until 2 a.m.
But in Kaffeehaus you can also have a full meal, and your best bets are on the traditional Austrian dishes, such as breaded pork fillet with potato salad or stew beef. The menu also includes light meals such as salads and sandwiches. To drink, there is a wide variety of cocktails, beers and wines. On Sundays, Kaffehaus serves a brunch that attracts many costumers, so it is best to book a table. To park the cars, try the underground parks near by (at Praça de Luís de Camões and at Rua do Almirante Pessanha).
