This passionate collector started the collection with only 14 years of age and spent part of the rest of his life researching and purchasing toys from various origins, ages and materials, showing a special interest on those that documented the history of mankind.
It was necessary to preserve this heritage and show it to the public, and so was born the Arbués Moreira Foundation, which, in 1989 creates the Toy Museum (in accordance with the Sintra City Hall). Meanwhile, with the collection growth, the museum was forced to move to a larger space: the old Sintra Fire Station.
Today, the visitors of this beautiful museum can find among the approximately 40,000 toys such as egyptian marble balls, aircraft models, complete sets of Hornby trains (1930), german Nazi Soldiers of World War II, a valuable and extensive collection of toy cars, beautiful doll houses and a collection of the famous Barbie doll.
Besides the permanent exhibition, there is still a room for temporary exhibitions, a workshop for toys restoration, a shop and cafeteria.
Opening hours: From Tuesday to Sunday from 10.00am to 6.00pm. Closed on Mondays and January 1st, May 1st and December 25th.
